Ageing in home is overwhelmingly supported

With the reported lack of trust in the aged care industry, it is no surprise that Australia’s ageing population want to stay at home for as long as possible. The 2018 Inside Aged Care report from Faster Horses found that 7 in 10 Australians believe the government should help people stay at home as they age. For consumers, in home services allow them to maintain their independence whilst ensuring their ageing needs are met. But how has the government responded?

Ahead of the commencement of the Royal Commission in January this year, the Federal Government committed $282.5m to in home care services. This new funding will subsidize in home services for eligible people with an additional 10,000 home care packages available nationally. The aged care industry has welcomed this government funding. However, there are concerns that without support for the industry workforce, these additional packages will stretch an already strained industry.

In 2019 Faster Horses will once again conduct their national survey into the aged care industry. This in-depth look at the aged care industry, delivers service providers with unmatched consumer insights. With the new funding allocated to in home care, this report will guide service providers on what specific services consumers are looking for and what their journey to in home care looks like.
